What Are The First Signs Of Divorce?

UnhappyCouple2

For married couples, keeping up with work or school schedules and the daily routines around your home can easily distract from potential problems in the relationship. It is not uncommon for one of the spouses to downplay the seriousness of the situation and to be shocked when their partner files for divorce. Being aware of the warning signs can help you be better prepared if it happens.

Signs Your Marriage Is In Trouble

Every couple argues and goes through a hard patch here and there. These are a normal part of life and are healthy, in that they help clear the air. It is an obvious problem if you do nothing but argue with your spouse or if these disagreements routinely become ugly. However, actual signs that your marriage is headed to divorce are often much subtler.

Problems in communicating with your spouse about issues in your marriage is one of the first warning signs of a potential divorce. Marriage.com advises that other common indicators include:

  • There is a lack of sex and physical attention. Sex drives vary and many couples endure periods where their sex life is less active. However, frequent frustration in the bedroom and a lack of other types of physical intimacy, such as kissing or hugging, is generally indicative of a problem.
  • You live separate lives. Being independent and enjoying some activities apart from your spouse is healthy. Living separate lives is not and could be a warning sign that a divorce is imminent.
  • You or your partner feel insecure in the marriage. A lack of intimacy and frequent put downs or rejections can eat away at self-esteem, resulting in deep insecurity. Reckless attitudes or behaviors in regards to jobs or money can do the same, creating serious problems in the marriage.
  • You no longer see a future together. Planning for the future together is healthy for a couple. It is a common warning sign of divorce when one partner stops making plans or sharing their hopes and dreams with the other.

Warning Signs A Spouse Is Considering Filing For Divorce

If you are experiencing any of the above signs of trouble in your marriage, it is important to consult with an experienced divorce attorney. Under the Florida Statutes, there are major issues pertaining to money, property, and children that must be resolved in any divorce case. To avoid being blindsided by your spouse filing a divorce petition, be alert for the following warning signs:

  • They get mail from unfamiliar businesses and addresses;
  • They begin moving money around in financial accounts or making large withdrawals;
  • You notice high value items such as artwork, antiques, and jewelry are missing from your home;
  • You suspect they are engaging in an affair or other types of marital misconduct.
